Agricultural Science, PhD:
For Dr. Arthur Pelchen the research on the effects
of methane emissions from animal husbandry on global warming
constituted the first contact with the subject of global warming and the
relevant international conventions like the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate
Change (UNFCCC) as well as the Kyoto Protocol and the Marrakesh
Accords based upon the UNFCCC.
For signatories of the Kyoto Protocol with a strong agricultural base a
reduction of methane emissions from animal husbandry is of great
importance. New Zealand for example emits more methane from animal
husbandry than carbon dioxide from industry and traffic.
